    A lot of people experience muscle pain when they are stressed, and the link between worry and muscle tightness is well-known. These are some of the ways that stress can hurt your muscles and make you feel bad:

    Your body goes into a “fight or flight” response when you’re stressed, which releases stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. This reaction in your body is meant to get you ready to fight off a threat. But in today’s world, long-term worry can cause muscles to tense up, especially in the back, neck, and shoulders.

    Stress can make muscles tighten more, which can make them stiff and tight. When you release stress chemicals and your muscles work harder, it can make your muscles hurt and feel uncomfortable. Stress that lasts for a long time can hurt blood flow. Muscles that don’t get enough blood flow can lose oxygen and nutrients, which can make them tired, sore, and uncomfortable.

    Having trigger points in your muscles may be caused by stress. These are spots where muscles twitch and feel sore, which can hurt and limit your range of motion. Stress can change the way you stand. For instance, people who are under a lot of stress may subconsciously adopt bad posture, like hunching their shoulders or clenching their mouth. These changes in posture can make muscle pain and strain worse.

    Long-term worry has been linked to more inflammation in the body. Inflammation can make muscle pain worse and can make joint problems worse that are already there. Stress can make you feel pain more, by lowering your pain tolerance. In other words, even small amounts of muscle tightness or pain may feel worse when you are worried. Tension-type headaches can be caused by tense muscles, especially in the neck and shoulders. A dull, constant pain that often goes from the neck to the head is a sign of these headaches.
